Arriving at Okayama Round 1 we had a lot of pre-season testing under out belt and our expectations were high but the conditions still made it completely open. During my years racing in Japan I have grown accustomed to sudden weather changes and round 1 was no different. After a completely dry free practice with not a cloud in the sky, it started raining just before the start of the 1st qualifying session.
On the intermediate tyres we were initially on the pace. But as the rain stopped and the track started to dry up, we weren’t able make the most of the improved conditions and ended up outside the top-10.
The race was much the same, once you’re at the back it’s hard to improve – especially at a track like Okayama with limited overtaking opportunities. We finished outside the points and with a start to the season that left more to be desired.
