Having qualified a strong 3rd, Bjorn took to the wheel of his GAINER Dixcel Mercedes SLS AMG for the first of two stints and soon moved into the lead, overtaking #61 Subaru BRZ and the fast starting #3 S Road Nissan GT-R. Having pulled a 20 second gap to the 2nd placed competitor by the end of the pit-window, Bjorn could safely pass the car over to his team mate, Kazuyuki Hiranaka, who consolidated the lead to cross the finish line in first position.
“It was a perfect weekend, in every aspect. Everything is new to me this year, the team, car and tyres and to start our championship challenge on this level is outstanding and bodes very well for the future. Together with my team mate we were able to control the race and the performance we got out of the Dunlop tyre was incredibly consistent on a high level. When other competitors experienced a performance drop, we were able to keep posting quick lap times,” said Bjorn.
“I’m pleased to be back in a position to fight for wins again and this result is confirmation that I made the right decision in moving across to the GAINER team after spending the last two seasons with Nissan. We now need to continue building on this momentum as its going to get harder with every result given the weight handicap that will be added following this win.”
The next round of the 2013 Super GT Championship takes place at Fuji Speedway on the 29th of April.
